Spot by Spot: What's New in Dermaglow

A new look, every spot mapped and followed from scan to scan, a coach that knows your spot history, an honest week-by-week plan for your goal, and reminders that actually arrive.

This is the biggest update Dermaglow has had. It looks different, it sees more, and the coach finally knows what you know: which spots are new, which ones have been there for weeks, and which have quietly gone.

It’s rolling out on the App Store now, and the same version is in testing on Android.

01

A new look

Dermaglow has a new face, literally. The icon is a single stroke of a smile with a soft glow, and the whole app moved to match: light, calm, and blue. Every screen was redrawn, from the Today page to the coach, with clearer type and fewer things competing for your attention.

02

Every spot, mapped and followed

A scan now places each spot exactly where it is on your face, on your own photo or on a clean face map, whichever you prefer. Then it does the part that actually matters: it follows each spot to the next scan.

So instead of a fresh count every time, you see a story. New since last time. Still there, and since when. Cleared. A spot that has lasted three scans says so, with the date it was first seen.

A few details we cared about:

  • Faint spots are kept apart. If the scan isn’t sure, it lists the spot as possible rather than counting it. If it’s real, the next scan will confirm it.
  • Lines, creases, freckles and shine aren’t spots. We worked hard on this. A freckle is a freckle, not a blemish.
  • More of your face is covered. The scan now reads the whole forehead, and the side photos let it see along your jaw and cheeks.
  • The under-eye area gets noted too, whether it’s dark circles, puffiness or hollows, with which one it looks like.
  • Capture is steadier. The camera waits for you to be still and sharp before it takes each photo, and takes them at a higher resolution.

03

A coach that knows your spots

The coach now sees the same spot history you do. Ask “is the spot on my chin new?” and it can tell you it’s been there for two weeks, or that it showed up since your last scan. Ask “are my breakouts clearing?” and the answer comes from your scans, not from general advice.

It’s also better at doing things, not just talking about them:

  • Weekly care works properly. Ask for a mask once a week, or to make your exfoliant a twice-a-week step, and it lands in your Weekly tab, not in your daily list.
  • It knows your main goal, and shapes its advice around it.
  • It’s quicker. Replies come back noticeably faster, especially when it is changing your routine or adding several products at once.

As always, nothing changes in your account until you tap to accept it.

04

Your goal, week by week

Tap your goal on the Today screen and you’ll see what a steady routine usually does for it, in four stretches: weeks 1–2, 3–4, 5–8 and 9–12 and beyond. Dermaglow marks where you are, counted from your first scan.

We wrote these timelines to be honest rather than exciting. Pores, for example, are mostly genetic in size; what a routine changes is how clear, and so how visible, they are. Where it makes sense, the timeline also says when it’s worth seeing a dermatologist.

You can change your goal right from that page, or ask the coach whether your routine is set up for it.

05

The smaller things

  • Reminders arrive. Routine and diary reminders are now set up automatically for your routines, including new ones, without needing to visit Settings first.
  • “Your scan is ready.” Switch to another app while a scan is being read, and you’ll get a notification when the result is in.
  • A tidier Settings page. Everything personal, like your skin profile, routines, products and plan, lives on your profile. Settings is now just settings.
  • Allergy checks are stricter. Ingredients you’re allergic to are caught under their other names too.
  • The scan report you can share now lists possible spots separately, so a doctor or friend sees exactly what was certain and what wasn’t.

06

What hasn’t changed

Your photos stay private and are never sold or used for advertising. You can delete everything from Settings at any time. And Dermaglow is still a guide, not a diagnosis: it points you to a dermatologist whenever something deserves a closer look.
